to give my nails a ';shiny'; finish... do i buff it prior to painting it.. or do i put a shine coat on top after painting it? or does one do both?

also, wat do u call the ';shine coat'; u put on at the end?

thanks! To give my nails a ';shiny'; finish... do i buff it prior to painting it.. or do i put a shine coat on top ..?
if you want your nails to shine without the nail polish buffing would work when you paint your nails you should put on a base coat first then the color you want and after that you should put on a top coat of fast finish polish dryer and that will make them shineTo give my nails a ';shiny'; finish... do i buff it prior to painting it.. or do i put a shine coat on top ..?
if you want it really shiny get the four sided buffers from sephora, they're really cheap (http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?鈥?/a> use all the four sides. Then, paint your nails with the color and then, use the top coat as well. It will make your nails verrrrry shiny! Guaranteed
Buffing helps a little because makes your nails super smooth and even and with that kind of nail, the polish reflects the light much better and it looks shinier. However, if you want a super shiny polish, put a shine coat on top.
This is only what I've heard (i.e. no experience):

-buffing your nails shines them, but when you put nail polish on top, you're not going to see your shiny nails

-a top coat is shiny, and it helps your nail polish to last longer
I don't think buffing oyur nails really effects the shine of your polish. Either buy a higher-gloss nail polish or top it with a top coat of clear, shiny nailpolish to increase shine.
    1. buff

    2. bottom coat

    3. color, design, ect.

    4. top coat

all the steps 2 perfect nails
buffing only helps with shine if you're not wearing nail varnish, once you put the varnish ontop it makes no differnce
you put on clear polish over the color you want

How often are nails supposed to be buffed?

when neededHow often are nails supposed to be buffed?
Well according to the bar that I visit frequently, Its every week. Every Monday they have Manicure Mondays as well as drink specials. How convenient, huh? Nothing like being at a bar, having your nails done and having a sip of Chardonnay or a Martini....:)How often are nails supposed to be buffed?
I do mine twice a week and I look at them everyday to make sure that they are not scratched or chipped. I keep a buffer in my desk, in my car and in my bag so i can touch up when needed.
although I had manicure every single morning after bath

buffering is only ocurred every 3 days for the hands and every 2 days for the feet.
    Very often, get buffed.
And this would be filed in the LGBT because...? Or are your nails gay?
    Get a life
not more than every other week or they will get really thin and brittle.

Yes, it'll make a smoother surface for the polish, so it'll go on smoother. =)Should i buff my nails before i paint them or not?
seems that whenever i buff before a new coat, it tends to chip. it's easier to let your nails soak in some warm water before you paint or file.Should i buff my nails before i paint them or not?
Buff with a lambskin buffer instead of the sanding buffer as over time the sanding buffer will wear down your nails....
yes you should it makes them smoother

  • How do you buff your nails?

ive never buffed my nails before what do i need and how do i do it?How do you buff your nails?
Buy some of those Nail Buffers, which are mostly shaped like emery boards/nail files. They're in the same nailcare section, usually by the emery boards. There are usually 3 steps:

    1. Clean.

This is the roughest texture of all, but not as rough as nail files. I've used some that have it as pink or white colored. This ';cleaning'; process is what makes your nails look white as well as smooth out ridges.

    2. Smooth.

This is a smooth texture side, usually in white. Its purpose is to further smooth out ridges, making your nails smooth.

    3. Shine.

This is the glossy side, usually in grey color. Its purpose is to make your nails super shiny, as if you have a clear coat of nail polish on.

With these 3 steps, just move each side back and forth sideways on top of each nail. Some buffers are rectangular shaped, with 4 sides, like what the professional nail shops use. But the steps are still the same. There is not much difference in various prices in terms of results, they all work the same, except the professionally-grade ones (available only through nail shop suppliers) last longer through wear %26amp; tear.

    CAUTION:

Don't buff your nails more than twice a month. I have made the mistake of buffing once a week and it's waay too much. Excessive buffing will make your nails too thin and fragile (= split more easily).

Is it possible to buff your nails too much?

If I first buff away the ridges, can it become painful? Is simply polishing them harmful?(Not nail polish, but the shining side of the nail buffer.) How often should I do it? Can it be painful? Is it possible to buff your nails too much?
you can damage the nail bed it can become very sensitive, it can take out all the natural oils, never file across always go up and down and yes it can be painful if you damage the nail bed getting water on your nails will hurt.Is it possible to buff your nails too much?
Generally, the rule is that you shouldn't buff for more than 30 seconds, and you should only do it about once a month to avoid damaging your nails. If you buff too often, it can become painful.

    Nail Buffing.?

I normally get manicures professionally, and I usually ask my nail technician to buff my nails unless I'm getting ready for something special. Then I have her paint them. I like the versatility and the clean look of buffed nails. The problem is that when I buff them myself sometimes, I can never get that same glassy sheen. My nails are shiny and smooth, but it's like comparing a VS2 diamond to a flawless. What am I doing wrong?Nail Buffing.?
I don't know what exactly you ARE doing, but here are a few tips: get a four way buffer, of good quality, and work your way down from the coarsest to the finest. This is sort of like using sandpaper on wood, first you get rid of obvious ridges, then little bumps, then tiny blemishes, and finally refine the whole surface to perfect smoothness. Follow the instructions on the packet and don't be too overzealous with the coarser ones or you could make your nails thin. As for technique, rub hardish, rub evenly and spend some time over it. At the end of each stage finish by smoothing in an upwards direction. Make sure your nails are clear of any lotion or residues that could mess with the buffing process. And next time you get a manicure, keep a close eye on what she's doing, and ask for any extra tips!Nail Buffing.?
there are a variety of grades of buffers.. i reccomend getting a buffing block.. then you do the toughest side first down to the smoothest side. Good luck!

    Do buffed nails nullify wudu?

I know that nail polish nullfies wudu because water cannot reach the nail, but what about buffing, considering you aren't putting any unnatural barrier on your nail?

the process includes buffing the nails with an emory-board like thing lightly till the dull surface of the nail files off; then you buff it with a cotton pad (not the typical cotton that has fibers n stuff) and then lastly you buff it with a nylon pad. All this helps reveal the shiny surface of the nail and really it makes your nails look like natural french manicure: the tips look whiter and the surface looks pinker that wayDo buffed nails nullify wudu?
    LOL, fear of ';you missed a spot'; brigade is in play again. (I don't mean to be rude but guys loosen up a bit) Just take normal ghusl, do a normal Wudu, no need to turn entire generations into sufferers of OCD. One would think its something very minor, buffing your nails or even applying nail polish, why can't you do it? but it turn out that we are forever trying to please the advocate of ritualistic logic, with a mile long list of these minor don't to drive anybody insane.     Islam is not a hyper ritualistic ';you missed a spot'; kind of religion, here is what God tells us in His own words;

It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces towards East or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfill the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. I used to work at a job doing wood finishing (staining/sealing cabinets, molding, etc...) and unless I wanted to chemically bleach my hands I had to let my nails look the way they did. It usually didn't have the wood stain color but it sure kept the nice glossy shine from the lacquer. I worried about it for a while but stopped after I realized it kept my nails strong as sh*t. (don't work in that field anymore %26amp; my nails are cracking %26amp; unattractive. go figure)

  • What is file/buff your nails???

I had some crooked nails on my finger, meaning the top part of the nails are more slant to the left side, both the pink and white part due to poor cutting skills. So I had some suggestions from answers in yahoo. What is file and buff your nails? Can file you nails really recover your nails back to the pink and white part is evenly on a finger left side and right side and not slant to the left side? Btw how to file/buff your nails? What is file/buff your nails???
ok...file is to make your desire shape or size of your nails for example....there are 3 shapes to file nails..round, square, or square-round. They`re like sand paper so i suggest that you do them slowly and carefully..if not.. you can really cut yourself open. Buff is used to remove excess dead nails and to remove all the lines on your nail dissappear.. You can use a buffer with 2 ways. 1 way.. is to buff really quick.. don`t over buff or your polish is not going to stay on for long, because when you buff.. you also takes some natural vitamins that is ontop of your nails with it. the vitamin which can hold on to polish.. 2... a buffer can also be used to smooth out your nails and make them shiny. if you want to make then shiny first.. you use the ROUGH side of the buffer. Then you use the SOFT side. after that aplly oil and rub it all over your nails. One more thing. when your nail is uneven like one side is higher than the other side. I would recomend you to cut it down to the same size and file it so it would be even. due to the increase lenght of your nails grows about 1/4 of an inch every 2 weeks( for healthy nails). It should be out of shape and you should know that it is that time that you should refile your nails. It would be a ver simple thing to do when you get the hang of it. BTW.. it is very addictive too. XDWhat is file/buff your nails???
    you`re welcome :) i`m glad i could help.

If Bill Oreilly devotes 15 minutes of ranting to how he thinks Reznor's views are un-American, then it gets massive media attention. All the other news channels cover it. Everyone hears about. If he's really lucky, congress will have some sort of investigation into how music affects kids patriotism. lol

France is Actually sending close to 500 according to the latest U.S. intelligence reports and they are headlining the effort being put into peace. France doesn't consider its soldats as cannon's meat, so this time, France wants the conditions of its job to be better defined. When it will be the case, then France will send more troops.

buff your nail with the buffer back and forth until shiny

Polish, rub out the rough spots.

    or other?

(crazy question, yeah....)Would you agree that buffed nails look like little droplets of water?
I love the look of buffed nails, BUT, you're actually removing the top layer of the nail to get that smooth and polished look. My nails are already very thin so I have to polish them.Would you agree that buffed nails look like little droplets of water?
buffed nails just look really shiny, as if you've painted a coat of clear nail varnish.

Should I buff my nails after I painted them?

I don't know what the sequence is..should I buff first before painting, or buff after painting?

Would buffing ruin the polish, and how long should i wait before I buff?

Thanks!Should I buff my nails after I painted them?
no only use a top coat on your nails to make them shineShould I buff my nails after I painted them?
no buff before only, apply clear coat to add shine
    dont do that.

    its not necissary.

    you woundnt buffer plastic.

    it wont work.

just put a top coat on it.

    that will be fine.
Buff first because you could ruin your paint on your nails if you do it after.
I'm not a pro, but I'm sure you should buff before you paint!
Actually, if your nails are painted you shouldn't buff them. You are just rubbing off tiny layers of your polish. And you shouldn't buff them before you polish because polish has a hard time clinging to a smooth surface. In fact, it helps to slightly roughen the surface of the nails before you polish them.

If you are going to buff, you should not wear polish, and don't buff more than once a week or so. Buffing thins the nails by, again, removing tiny layers of your nail's surface.
Buff and shape nails first, then wash your hands. Use a cuticle softener and nail protector lotion and then wipe hands on towel to remove access moisture. Then you can polish--base coat, polish (2 coats), and top coat.
Honestly I wouldn't because that would take the nail polish off. If anything do it befoore you paint your nails that way they don'y come off and look bad.
nonono!!!!!!! by filing or buffing your nails while they're polished, your nails get weaker and can break more easily. heres how to have a perfect manicure at home

1- wash your hands with herbal soap

    2- rub them with moisturizer

3- file your nails. DO NOT file back and forth. file the edges and the tips in an oval shape.

    4- buff your nails.

5- put a drop of cuticle oil on your cuticle and leave it for about two minutes (for all nails, not two mins. per nail)

6- paint a base coat onto your nail and let it dry. this will make sure that the polish doesnt stain your nail. (paint a long streak in the middle of the nail, then the left, then the right.)let dry.

7- paint your nails the color of your choice using the same technique that you used for the base coat.let dry.

8- do a second coat. let dry.

9- paint a clear top coat and let dry.

    10- enjoy your manicure!

and you never buff AFTER painting. if you want the paint to be shiny, just use a top coat. and yes, buffing would ruin the polish.
    Well, you buff you nails.

Then file them if you want

then put on a base coat

    and let it dry

then, paint your nails whatever color you want (with nailpolish)

    let it dry

and out on a top coat to seal the color!
Buff your nails before you paint them...you can wait three days for the polish to dry and you will still ruin the polish.
You buff before you put on the polish. It helps the nailpolish stay on longer and if you did it after then you would just ruin the wonderful nails you just painted.
file, buff, wash hands, dry then paint ;)
DO NOT BUFF THEM YET YOUR NAILS WILL BE RUINED

Is buffing you're nails bad for you?

i only buff them once every 2-4 weeksIs buffing you're nails bad for you?
It's not bad if you're only doing a mild buffing, something that polishes more instead of taking a good bit of surface off the nail. Also, you have to take into consideration the natural thickness of your nails.

I would not shine/polish (not lacquer, but buffing) them more than once a week, but a bi-weekly/monthly buffing (where you're gently smoothing the nail) is just right.

Just becareful that you're not taking too much off your nails, they could become weak or brittle then.Is buffing you're nails bad for you?
    I don't think so!
No, it's really good for your nails. You can do it more

    often than that.

BTW: I liked the first answer. Quick on your feet!
Not unless you buff in the buff. That can be illegal in some states.
    No.

Really good for nails it help keep the the naill polish to stay on longer, and it also decrease your ridges on your nail and take the oil out of your nail plate and gentle roughing up the ridge of your nail.

    bye bye

There is this nail file you can get at a CVS Pharmacy or even just a Walmart in the Cosmetics section that has multiple sides to the file. It has a total of 7 sides.

    1) File nail

    2)Clean it kind of

    3)Loose ends

    4)Even out nail

    5)Smooth nail

    6)Buff nail

    7)Shine nail

I've used it a few times and honestly your nail stays smooth and SHINY for an EXTREMELY long time! Its also very healthy so you can give yourself a personal manicure! French or regularHow can you buff and file your nails at home and make them look shiny like you put polish on them?

go and get yourself a manicurist set and it should have instructions
I have a kit from Deep Sea Cosmetics. There is a buffer in it with 3 sides.

    1= removes roughness

    2= buffer

    3= shine!

There is also a lotion for your cuticles to keep them healthy and lotion for your hands. Oh and there is a nail file in it too. I really like it. I got it for $25(student discount) but it's usually $75. I recommend you look for a good nail buffer, not necessarily from DSC. You should only need to do your nails like this every 2 weeks, otherwise you'll over file your nails and make them thin, prone to tear/break.

    Hope this helps!

They also sell these three or four way buffers at any drug store and at most dollar stores for a buck only. You just need to be careful not to use the ridge smoothing side too much, or it will buff off too many of the layers from the top of your nail, making your nails weaker and they will break easier. The white satin finish and the shining portion can be used as often as you like. Don't forget to use it on the edge of your nail like a nail file to seal the edge of your nail as well.

How often do you buff your nails?

i got this buffer (the block one with 4 steps) on saturday and i buffed them then, should i do it again today? is this too often? i don't want to weaken my nails. How often do you buff your nails?
Do not buff nails too often. If my client gets a weekly manicure I will buff near cuticle area only. You can do it very gently with the non abrasive side every other week or two. Or if you have a chip from damaging it- smooth it out. It will weaken nails if done too often. Buff your toenails every time you give yourself or get a pedicure- which is every 4-6/ 6-8 weeks- depending. How often do you buff your nails?
I've heard every 2-3 weeks should be efficient enough :]
About every month or so . Don't over do. That's what I do anyway. Not everybody is the same.
2 weeks is long enough to wait as long as you don't overbuff them. By the way, you can do ';step 4'; as often as you want, as this does not abrade or thin the nail.

Buffing is a great look for both men and women. It is much easier than nail polish and always looks classy and refined.

    Good choice.
    every 3-4 weeks
I do it every time i change my nail colour.

What is the PROPER WAY TO BUFF YOUR NAILS?

Because after I buff my nails, they look good, but sometimes it makes scratches. How do I get rid of them?

Also... I've had big, white scratches on my nails for a long time... how do i get rid of them?

Thanks %26lt;3What is the PROPER WAY TO BUFF YOUR NAILS?
If I buff my nails, I get scratches too, probably because the coarsest grit portion of the nail buffer is too harsh for my particular nails. Once they're there, I can't get rid of them, because the more I try to buff them out, the more I just get scratches on other parts of my nail, and then my whole nail becomes way too thin and weak. I only use the shining part of the buffer on my nails, and that works quite well for me.What is the PROPER WAY TO BUFF YOUR NAILS?
well wash ur hands with warm soapy water then pat dry

then soak hands in olive oil 4 5 mins

    dry hand wif tisue

    then sape it
If you have had theses 'scratches' for a long time it may not be from buffing your nails. You may have a vitamin deficiency and should discuss with your doctor. Nails grow pretty quickly and the damaged part of the nail should be grown out by now.
When you buff your nails, you're only supposed to move the buffing thingy (lol) one way, not back and forth...maybe that's why it makes scratches
just remember not to overbuff your nails as the nail will become thinner.

Do you buff your nails in the loos at work?

How do you steal time back from your employer?Do you buff your nails in the loos at work?
    We'll consider highschool work...

I play around on the internet under my other documents.

I get hallpasses to my locker and go sit on the counter in the bathroom to text, put on make-up, catch a few Zs, or whatever. I roam around an such.

I waste as much time as possible.

    And I still have a B average.

And yes, I do my nails in the bathroom, too!Do you buff your nails in the loos at work?
I play on the internet or talk on the phone or talk with the other employee. But when the boss is here we are always working
The more work I do, the more money I make - so I don't need to steal time.
My employer pays me for my time. I don't really think there is any reason to try to ';steal'; it back from him. While I'm at work, I'm on their time.
I work on commission so I'm always on my time.
I'll be honest, I play on the internet.

  • Buffing Your Nails....?

I got a nail buffing block for Christmas and i don't know how to use it! Help!! Do you paint your nails, then shape, then smooth, then buff, then shine?? Or do you do all that before you paint your nails??Buffing Your Nails....?
No, you buff your nails before hand. When you buff your nails, it makes them REALLY shiny. You're removing all the natural surface stains from them, resulting in a shiny appearance. You may not even want to paint them after you buff them.Buffing Your Nails....?
    Steps

1)) Purchase a nail buffer at your local store. This will look either like an emery board with a few different colored panels, or it will be a foam block with different textures on the sides.

2)) File your nails as you normally would, rounded square or oval look best.

3)) Starting with the roughest grit side of the buffer, begin to buff your nails with a gentle, side-to-side motion. At first, just aim to smooth out major ridges.

4)) Move to the next roughest setting, and repeat with gentle side to side motion, again working to smooth out the nail.

5)) Repeat with the third side of the buffer .

6)) With the last (smoothest) part of the buffer, this is where you really get to work, polishing your nails till they look like you just put on clear nail polish. Voila!
    The ideal way:

    Trim

    Shape

    Buff

    Smooth

    Shine

    THEN paint:

    Basecoat

    Polish (1-3 coats)

    Topcoat

There is your formula for beautiful nails.

Is my nail polish chipping more than ever because my nails are buffed?

I have started buffing my nails and the high gloss shine looks amazing, no ridges is great but my manicure chips the next day. Usually I get a few days before more than half of my nail ends are chipped. Natural nails, I have tried drugstore brands and OPI, a high end brand from the salon and the same results. Any advice or a recommendation for an inexpensive base coat please. I already use a non yellowing base coat but maybe I should do that then another better gripping base coat on top of that.Is my nail polish chipping more than ever because my nails are buffed?
First off I would not buff so much. If you're using colored polish on top of your base coat, there's very little advantage. Only a minimal buff would be required to assist in a smooth polish finish.

Second, excessive buffing will thin nails and could lead to tearing, splitting, etc.

Third, the best base coat I'm aware of for what you describe is Orly Base Coat. I'm not sure of the ';name'; of the base coat, but it is a rubberized base for extended wear. Bottle describes how that base coat makes polish last 2 weeks without chipping. I've used it. The base coat is a bit thicker than most and a bit tacky, sticky, spongy, so I can imagine that the bonding of polish would be better than glossy base coats. OPI Natural (Professional Series) Base coat is a close second .

Lastly, don't forget to use a top quality top coat. This will affect chipping as much as anything esle. Use OPI, Orly, Sally Hansen Hard As Nails. These are best in my experience.

You should. More men should, some of their feet are nassstaaaayyy.
there is nothing wrong with it at all except that it is a bit strange.

Nothing wrong with it at all. My boyfriend does it, it's fun we get to do it together. And I like his cute toes. No one likes an ugly foot.
this world sucks and men who try to look nice and take care of hygeine and nails and facial cream get mix up with being gay plus men can wear anything so be who are
Check out some Eddie Izzard DVDs - he's a straight comedian, really funny, and wears makeup and sometimes dresses on stage. Maybe you'll be inspired.
because thats a girl thing to do! if you are male then that most likely means you are gay! if you were straight and wanted to enjoy the finer things in life then you would want like a nice car, four weeler, motorcycle! things like that!

  • How often should I buff my nails?

My nails are really weak and I have decided that instead of putting polish over them, I will buff my nails and give myself manicures without nail polish. However, I have heard that buffing the nails can make nails weak. I have also heard that buffing can stimulate nail growth because of blood flow to the nails. So how often should I buff my nails to make sure that I am not harming them and making them weaker in the process? How often should I buff my nails?
once a month is more than enoughHow often should I buff my nails?
buffing is only to add shine to the nail. caused by stimulation from friction. over buffing can cause burning and thinning of nail. if you want natural looking nails. use a clear nail polish with strengthener. not only gives shine, but protects as well. as for buffing? just skip it. it is not necessary. if discoloration is what your after. then allow your nails to air for a day or so. nails need to breathe. the discoloration is lack of oxygen from nail polish.
Still use nail polish,it won't make them weak but make sure you use a proper basecoat so your nails will not stain. It is important to buy a good quality nail varnish remover so you do not strip the moisture from them. It would also be good for your nails if you bought nail strengthener, you put it on just like nail varnish. Only buff your nails once a month, any more than that will weaken them further.
Nail polish is actually something you should use to strengthen your nails. It provides protection if you have weak brittle nails. Buffing will not hurt your nails. All buffing does is add a shine to your nail.

Is it possible to buff your nails too much?

If I first buff away the ridges, can it become painful? Is simply polishing them harmful? How often should I do it?Is it possible to buff your nails too much?
Yes you can buff the too much, if you are using a three way buffer i would use stage one and two only once a month and then the smooth side once a week.

If you buff too much the nail plate can become too weak and break.

The leighton denny three way buffer is great and only costs 拢5,

If buffing doesn't resolve the ridges how about a ridge filler?

You can get these at most beauty shops. Is it possible to buff your nails too much?
I'm not a professional but some buffers are made with gemstone dust like crystal and diamond dust and diamonds are one of the strongest materials in the world to cut things. If you buff more then once every one-two weeks then all that tender skin will be way thin and you could bruise easier from normal pressure also bend. (that includes bending resulting in eventually tearing off and possible bleeding) Or the worst case scenario: you could buff your nail off in places and not even realize it hot water or something that stings gets on your nails.
You can over-buff them and make them thinner and then they will be much more sensitive to hot and cold and breakage. Polishing isn't harmful, just don't pick at the peeling polish, that also chips away at your nails. Buff no more than once every 10 days and polish as often as you like, but use non-acetone polish remover between polish changes.

Follow up: The polishing part of the buffer is fine to use often. (About 2x weekly) If you are looking for additional shine try a little sweet almond oil or cuticle oil between polishings.
dont do it it damages your nails.
It is! I've done it and my nails were brittle! If you are worried you are over buffing, do not buff one nail, and wait a while to see the difference. If the nail you do not buff is a lot stronger then the others, you are over-buffing ( if you don't want to have a finger nail unbuffed, you do have toe nails). To make sure you do not over buff, limit yourself to stopping when your nail starts to feel smooth but it is mostly even surfaced.
Buffing too much will cause your nails to thin and break easier. It also makes it harder for polish to stick to your nails because it doesn't have ridges to sink into. Buff your nails so they feel smoothe but not ultra smoothe..some little ridges. If you want that clean, smoothe look, try using clear base coat first, then applying nail polish. Nail polish isn't harmful but if used too much it does make your nails yellow, because it doesn't allow them to breathe.

How do you buff your nails without using a buffer?

I want to buff my nails at home, but I do not have a buffer. They do not have buffers where I looked so don't say buy one!How do you buff your nails without using a buffer?
If they don't have buffers where you looked, then look elsewhere. Plenty of places sell them - CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Sally Beauty, Walmart, K-Mart, and many, many more. But, to answer your question - there is nothing else you can use to buff your nails. At least not that I am aware of anyway.

buffing ur nails helps gets rid of ridges takes care of jaged edges and also can encourage nail growth however doing it over can thin and weaken the nails ! x:)What is buffing the nails for?
    make them shiny.

Is filing and buffing ur nails the same thing?

    as titled.

thank you !Is filing and buffing ur nails the same thing?
No. Filing is shaping around the edges of the nail to create the shape - square or curved. Buffing is smoothing the top of the nail with a buffer or an emery board. This can actually help your nail polish to last longer and not chip!Is filing and buffing ur nails the same thing?
Nope. Filing is generally just smoothing out the tips of your nails. But buffing usually involves a finer-grade tool or a progression from rough to fine tools to smooth and shine the entire nail.
No its not filing is going on the edge and buffing is smoothing the top of ur nail with a buffer.
filing is shaping your nails and buffing is done on top of the nail to get rid of ridges

What's the difference between smoothing your nails and buffing your nails?!?

yea. What's the difference between smoothing your nails and buffing your nails?!?
Smoothing gets rid of the ridges on your nails and nail bed.. Buffing shines them. What's the difference between smoothing your nails and buffing your nails?!?
smoothing is like smoothing the imperfections of the nail,

like ridges. This makes the nail more smooth and makes the nail polish to be applied more even.

Buffing on the other hand brings out the nails natural shine

    and it also smooths.
Buffing your nails you would do with an actual buffer you buy from a salon/beauty store which removes uneven nailbed rubbish, and further smoothing the nailbed. It would be the same as smoothing, there really is no difference.
    i dunno

Is buffing your nails the same as fileing them?

if not what does buffing your nails mean and how do you do it?Is buffing your nails the same as fileing them?
no. buffing is ... well, 'buffing' away on TOP of the nail, as opposed to filing on the end of the nail, with a spongy file-like rectangle tool to smooth out the top of the nail for a more flawless nail appearance. do NOT use a nail file to buff your nails. they textures are different in both tools and you'll end up messing up your nails. and try not to overbuff your nails cuz it weakens them and makes 'em easy to break.

you can get a nail buffer for only a few bucks at any beauty supply store or walgreens. Is buffing your nails the same as fileing them?
no, filing uses a board thats courser in texture to shape your nails. buffing actually smooths out the top on your nail
buffing mean giving whole nail a shiny look.

filing be making tip of fingernail smooth.
buffing nails r on the top of ur nails.

Is a nail buffing kit worth it or is it stupid?

Okay yesterday at the mall i got ambushed by one of the salesmen. Being an actress myself, I must say he did a really good job. He was selling a nail buffer kit. Now he said it lasts months but i don't really believe it. I also thought my nail kind of looked plastic but since i can't wear nail polish due to work i thought it looked like a great alternative. The kit also comes with this cuticle conditioner, it had to be 3 ounces at least, and a 9 oz water based lotion. He said since I was only 17 he'd give it all to me for $15. My question is does this sound like a stupid deal and is nail buffing a waste of my time? Or will it really benefit. I need a polished look for my acting career but do hands really matter? Is a nail buffing kit worth it or is it stupid?
Okay, maybe I'm not your regular guy, but I don't get it. Sure a cracking body, face or whatever will turn a man's head. But that's a very different matter to who we take home. Sexy is what's important. And no amount of fiddling will ever make you more sexy than how you feel.

I guess it's a bit different for actors/esses but that particular detail is dependent on the thing you're doing. Normally finger nails are a bit small to be spotted by any bar the most fastidious. As a film maker myself, my main concern will always be with the eyes - regardless of make-up.Is a nail buffing kit worth it or is it stupid?
no i don't think its a waste of time at all. since you cant wear nail polish, and us girls like to have nice nails, this is a great idea. 15$ is a bad price in my opinion, there are cheaper products you could have bought that have the same effect. but i mean if you really do like it then yes it is a good deal.
a good hand cream, a cuticle remover and a good manicure every week is all that you need put the cream at night and a pair of cotton gloves in the morning you'll see the beautiful result. your hands will thank you.
Well I got this Seacret Nail Kit for a gift and I still use it all the time. I think it was from a mall salesman but it works very well and keeps my nails smooth and shiny, which goes with any outfit.
    It's a waste.

The one from the dead sea works great. But you know all you have to do is soak your fingers in warm water and the paint your nails and it works well.

I love the one from the dead sea though.
    waste of friken time!!
it is really benifit, if you dont like it after you buy it return it an get your $15 back..
    waste of time
i was at a mall when i went on vacation and a guy did the exact same thing to me and i told him i didn't want it but every time that i walked by him he tried selling it to me again so i eventually bought it just to get him to stop bugging me.. i thought that it wouldn't work at all and that i would really regret buying it but i didn't. it works wonders and it makes it look like you are always wearing a clear coat of nail polish i'm actually really glad i bought it.

the only thing that i kind of don't like about it is the moisturizer, its pretty thick and i wouldn't put it on before going out because it doesn't make your skin look smooth like other moisturizers ut i use it almost every night before i go to bed

    i hope i helped a little! :)

Does nail buffing thin short nails?

I've read many times that buffing your nails thins them out. It makes sense. People warn against buffing more than twice a month to avoid breakage or other damage.

I can see where this limit would make sense for people with long nails, as the tips would be prone to breakage, especially with lots of buffing. But my nails are very short (just covering the nailbed) -- do I still have to worry about thinning or other damage? I'd like to buff twice a week or so to keep them shiny, but don't want to do permanent damage to my nails.

Thanks for your help!Does nail buffing thin short nails?
If you are using a 3 or 4 step buffer you can buff twice a week as long as you are only using the last stage buffer. Do not use any of the other sides that actually create a dust (that dust is your nail) better still why not just get a decent quality clear gloss for after you have buffed...you can replace that instead of having to buff.Does nail buffing thin short nails?
I use the Talika Nail shaper and my nails look great. I have not noticed any thinning.

    Nail buffing kit?

Can you extend the life of these nail buffing kits? Mine has three parts, shaped somewhat like large emory boards. One is a fine grade file to clean up ridges, the second one says

';Condition'; on it and the third one is gray and has a sort of rubber surface and it's the actual buffer that makes your nail shiny.

What's the best way to clean them or take care of them so they last a bit longer than one or two uses? Can they be washed in soapy water?Nail buffing kit?
you could probably take a wet towel and wipe them off but i wouldn't suggest putting them under water.

Do you know about the buffer made with diamond dust, hard cotton, and silk? I love that buffer! So much better than clear nail polish!Which do you prefer: buffing nails, or clear nail polish?
buffing's a lot better for your nails and keeps them shinier for longer, without the worry of chipping.
definitely clear nail polish cause it makes the nails look shiny and healthy
Buffing Nail polish can half scratch away and make it look tacky.
Buffing is fine....it won't really matter if you buff then use clear polish:]But clear nail polish will last longer:]
    definitley clear nailpolish
Buffing because the nails are so smooth! They are like silk!

How do u use nail buffing cream?

how do u use it and what does it do?How do u use nail buffing cream?
You rub it into each nail until you can't really see it anymore, than you use a nail buffer and gently buff from side to side. It is used to give shine to the nails. Hope this answers your question and helps you out.How do u use nail buffing cream?
you need a tissue or cotton and put a dab on your nail and rub it in as if you were waxing or ';buffing'; (in small circles) untill dry.
wait , wait , wait.... why would you want to buff them ? all you need to do is pound-em in with a hammer, you one,ll see em after that, ............well maybe if they really look.. so don,t bend too many over, your friends will think you don,t know what your doing...
not sure but think with a buffing tool

smoothes out the ridges in your nails and makes 'em shinier

Can you overdose on nail buffing and get nail cancer?

i heard that someone had it and the docs had to remove the nails in order to save the fingers. is it true? if it is, till what extend can i buff? Can you overdose on nail buffing and get nail cancer?
Good grief. Where do people come up with this kind of garbage? Can you overdose on nail buffing and get nail cancer?
No, but excessive buffing can bruise your nail bed underneath and it can hurt really bad.
your nails are dead so you cant get cancer in them ever or in your hair either
You can't get nail cancer, nails are not cells, they are dead material.

Obviously you can get skin cancer anywhere in your skin, so it's possible to get cancer underneath the nail but I've never heard of this.

Getting your nails buffed can't cause cancer, it's just a rubbing action.
no, but anyone near you can secondary nail dust complications, also excessive nail buffing rots brain cells.

What's nail buffing cream or cuticle remover cream?

i got them in a manicure kit and i have to idea what to use them forWhat's nail buffing cream or cuticle remover cream?
Cuticle remover cream is a cream that really moisturizes your cuticles, and makes it easier for you to push them back gently. Nail buffing cream is a cream that you apply to your nails before buffing and shining them, and the motion of using the buffer forces some of the cream into your nails for extra moisture and extra shine. What's nail buffing cream or cuticle remover cream?

When your cutical remover cream does the same thing as when you push your cuticals back with an orange stick (that little wooden stick), and your buffer cream is either a buffing lubericant or it's used so you don't have to buff your nails.
